Our Maiden Voyage - October 26, 2013

We bought two tickets to fly from Tacoma, WA to Phoenix, AZ - one way. The plan was to buy a motorhome in Arizona in January, travel the southwest for the winter, and return in April or May when it warms up at home.  Plans change. In October we purchased our first RV, a 2006 Itasca Sunrise motorhome with 7200 miles. Within the week we were on the road headed south.

We're glad we bought the Beast in WA because we were able to outfit it with belongings from home. We did a good job preparing for our adventure in that quick week. We had previous experience from loading up the boat for month long excursions. The one thing we did not plan was a tow vehicle. We just couldn't decide what to do: trailer the Camry? buy a flat tow vehicle? We needed more time to figure it out. So for 6 months the 35ft land yacht is our primary vehicle.

We invited our Northwest friends & neighbors over to meet the Beast and say our farewells. We're going to miss all of them. Sadly, we had to leave behind the big screen TV. We enjoy hosting game-day parties to watch our Seattle Seahawks. We have high hopes for them this season. Go Hawks!

Some of you may be wondering about the blog name. Most of you already heard of Dial A Shot from us. Here's the story. The O-Babes (sisters: Denise, Chris & I) were in New Orleans 25 years ago . To stay connected with our friends at Dini's Del Mar we called them from a phone booth in a bar and did a shot together. This tradition has prevailed over the years as a fun way to keep in touch with friends and family when miles separate us from each other.

I googled "dial a shot" and I found this definition that appears at Urban Dictionary. Apparently great minds think alike.

The process by which one person contacts another (via phone, text message, etc.) and shouts "dial-a-shot!", resulting in both people simultaneously taking a shot of whatever alcohol is available at that time. This was invented as a way to connect people separated by long distances and also to give people an excuse to take shots by themselves.
