Southern Oregon: Crater Lake

Before crossing over Siskiyou Pass we took a detour to view Shasta Dam. Their Visitor Information Center has an informative movie about the building of the dam. Tours are free and last about 90 minutes. It is wonderful to see Shasta Lake filled with water after a reprieve from the drought.

Over the Memorial Day weekend we in Grants Pass with Jill. The
Boatnik Festival on the Rogue River featured jet boat drag races, lots of vendors and beer gardens. For the most part we avoided it like the plague. The weather has been unseasonable hot - over 100 degrees. At least it's green!

We went to her friends birthday party and she received this hand painted wheelbarrow filled with plants to put into her garden.

We drove to Oregon Caves National Monument.

The tour was more challenging than most National Parks we've been on with the uneven ground,  steep stairs, bad lighting and overhead obstacles.

The River Styx is the only Nationally protected subterranean river and it flows through these caves.

Jill took us to a wonderful winery that is selling their wine in growlers. What a great idea! It saves on bottling and brings customers back for more.

Do stopped by to say hi and we posed with a painting of our bocce ball days as Carmen Ann Miranda

Tim and I, along with Jill went to visit Suzy and Rick in Ashland

We haven't seen their girls since we were married 12 years ago. Morgan kept the thunderbird headband Kaela gave her all those years ago.

We could not have picked a better day to go to Crater Lake. Blue skies, no wind. Picture perfect
