Cooling our heels in Williams, AZ

We pulled out of Phoenix at 5:30 pm, ahead of the massive dust storm and monsoon rains the following morning. Thank goodness. It would have added insult to injury to have thrown that in the mix. Tim and I had wanted to go to Williams, AZ in the spring, but it was just too cold then. So here we are in August and we couldn't be happier. Our friends Denny & Kristina are playing at the Wild West Junction in town. The Grand Canyon Train departs from Williams and there is a historic downtown that offers restaurants, entertainment, and shopping. No bead stores though. haha

We beat the crowds and drove early one morning to Grand Canyon. We were there about 1/2 hour after sunrise - still within the "golden hour". No lines to get in. No lines for the shuttle buses. This is Mather Point near the Visitor Information Center

You can see Angels Trail going down from the Village into the Canyon. No we did not hike down. It's a long way back up and we're not in shape for that

You can see the muddy Colorado River below

As usual, the pictures just don't do it justice.

Another day we went to Walnut Canyon National Monument. It is a very lush environment with ancient cliff dwellings of the Pueblo Indians.

When you look closely there are 5 different dwellings situated on the cliffs.

We made a reservation for a week and are enjoying ourselves so much we changed it to a month. (Now I can order some beads online for the projects I'm working on.) Within a one hour drive are  Sedona and Jerome; multiple National Monuments, lakes, mountains, and trails to explore.  The city of Flagstaff is 30 miles away. Come on by!
